University of Manchester

Located in Manchester on Oxford Road, England, the University of Manchester was established in the year 2004 when the Victoria University of Manchester and University Of Manchester Institute Of Science And Technology were merged. It is a public research red brick university, produced after the civic university movement that took place at the end of the 19th century. The university is also a member of the Russell Group University. Also known for having the country's largest students' union, The University of Manchester Students' Union is the main student body at the university. It was formed when the University of Manchester Union and UMIST Students' Association were amalgamated. It is not the same as many student unions in the country as the body is not led by a president but has an executive team of 8 members who work for the betterment of the university.

The university offers undergraduate courses, master's courses, postgraduate research, diplomas, and certification programs. As per the data of 2018-19, the university has 40,250 students and more than 12,800 staff members. In 2017-18, the university had £298.7 million from research study and contracts from a combined income of £1 billion. It has the 3rd largest donation of any university in England. Not just this, the university possesses and runs some of the cultural properties such as the John Rylands Library, Manchester Museum, Whitworth Art Gallery, and Jodrell Bank Observatory. The university has a number of inventors, eminent scientists, entrepreneurs, media figures, and four Nobel laureates (more than any other UK university) among its alumni and staff.

Students are encouraged to actively participate in sports and well-being facilities are extensive, including the Armitage Sports Centre in Fallowfield with outdoor pitches, indoor halls and fitness suite, the Manchester Aquatics Centre, and Sugden Sports Centre in the city, and the Wellbeing Rooms on campus.

The University of Manchester delivers holistic development by providing students with a great support network, counseling services, free sports, and well-being activities, and workshops for academic and personal skills such as time management, essay writing, or referencing. Social responsibility is taken very seriously at the University of Manchester, and there are many volunteering opportunities across the city, as well as the Ethical Grand Challenge, where students can come together to tackle problems facing the world today.
